Antora Launches Project Big Stone

Antora is commissioning a 5 gigawatt-hour, multi-day thermal energy storage system at POET’s bioprocessing facility in Big Stone City, South Dakota. The deployment ranks among the world’s largest battery storage projects, delivered at the speed required to meet surging domestic energy demand.

Project Big Stone advanced from an empty lot to delivering energy in under 12 months. The landmark project, which will be completed later this year, deploys over 200 of Antora’s thermal batteries to deliver affordable, round-the-clock energy to POET—the world’s largest producer of biofuels—at their Big Stone City plant under a long-term energy offtake agreement.

Antora worked closely with Otter Tail Power—a utility that provides power at some of the lowest costs in the nation to customers across South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota—to develop an innovative electric rate that enables the system to deliver 24/7 energy without increasing costs for other consumers. Approved by the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission last year, the rate allows the system to selectively and rapidly charge during periods of surplus local energy production, making better use of existing grid infrastructure. The structure offers a model for utilities across the country to rapidly integrate thermal energy storage while benefiting everyone on the grid.

Peak Energy Partners With General Motors

Peak Energy and General Motors have announced a strategic partnership to scale next-generation energy storage for the grid, combining Peak’s grid-scale storage platform with GM’s battery and manufacturing expertise. To accelerate their market entry, Landscape partnered with Peak Energy to create a category-leading brand and site positioning their Sodium-Ion battery technology as the superior and reliable storage standard for industry-scale demand.

The bold visual system—featuring dynamic angular forms, vibrant orange palette, and technical infographics—establishes Peak as a critical player in building America’s energy future and resilient grid, supporting their mission to deploy giga-scale storage systems nationwide.

Accelerating early traction and driving demand for large-scale energy storage.

Bio-Based Wool: Variloom Partners With WoolSource

Variloom is partnering with WoolSource to unlock a new generation of bio-based materials for 3D-printed fashion. By pairing advanced manufacturing with Wool Source’s Cradle to Cradle Certified materials, they’re redefining what circular design can do—opening new opportunities for innovative and creative products.

To bring their innovation out of stealth, Landscape partnered with Variloom—a Moon Creative Lab venture backed by Mitsui—to define the foundational brand elements for their patent-pending 3D fabric printing system. Through global naming, identity, and messaging, we positioned Variloom at the forefront of advanced fabrication and circularity, capturing the system’s promise of print-to-shape flexibility, minimal waste, and fully recyclable performance textiles. The brand has since gained industry recognition, winning ISPO Awards alongside Rip Curl and YKK, and earning a spot on Fast Company’s 2025 Innovation by Design list.

Launching an innovation leader in 3D-printed fabrics and apparel circularity.

A Tasting Menu for La Digestion (or Love Songs for Alice Waters)

By Connor Tomaka, Laszlo Horvath, and Satya Paul

A Tasting Menu for La Digestion (or Love Songs for Alice Waters) is a pre-performance essay by Connor Tomaka, Laszlo Horvath, and Satya Paul, shared here as a prelude to their June 5th performance at DOG. Structured as a meal — courses, a digestif, a coda — it moves across the physiology of the singing voice, the digestion of culture, and the governance of creative ecosystems.

The performance follows. Join us Friday, June 5th for Music at DOG: La Digestion, an evening of live and recorded music centered on the modulation of voice. Doors at 7pm.

Modal Raises $355M in Series C Funding

$355M raised. $4.65B valuation. Congrats to Modal on growing fivefold since September to surpass $300M in annualized revenue.

Modal started because the cloud built for traditional web applications was never going to fit AI workloads. This was clear to them before the GenAI revolution, and it becomes even more true as models and techniques advance.

Modal is a cloud built for AI. Not a single-purpose GPU cloud, but a platform with the right primitives for developers to build a very wide range of applications. Today, this looks like low-latency elastic inference, dynamic agent runtimes, reinforcement learning, batch jobs at massive scale, and much more.
To expand their adoption among enterprise teams, Modal needed a brand reflecting their product’s quality and transformative potential. Together, we developed an evolved identity and site showcasing their flexibility, scalability, and speed. The new brand has established Modal as the leader in serverless infrastructure, accelerating product adoption, funding, and solidifying their position in the developer ecosystem.
